Leadership/the Business Side of Law: Leadership is more than just billing and collecting. Emerging leaders abhor a vacuum and step up even when the shareholders are not watching or aware. They participate, most of the time with enthusiasm, and sometimes with passion. They don’t make a habit of complaining or drowning everyone around them in negativity. They take initiative with a creative flare for the betterment of the Firm. And they share credit readily and help others achieve their professional goals.

Ask any attorney what they think about running a law firm, and they will probably say something about keeping time, billables and collection. Most will not consider leadership and communication skills, malpractice and health insurance, payroll and trust accounts, education and training, liability control, client retention, RFPs, or digital media. Broach those subjects with attorneys, and you may hear comments such as, “We didn’t learn that in law school.”

They would be right, for the most part, because most law firms do not offer such courses. However, leadership skills are not innate in most people and can be learned. This program not only teaches such skills, but helps identify future leaders and teach them about the law business and the operations of the firm, including, but not limited to the following courses:

Management
HR
Accounting
IT
Professional Development
Client Service
Marketing
